A small-diaphragm condenser pair is two matched pencil-style condenser microphones sold together specifically so their frequency response and sensitivity line up closely — a detail that matters enormously once two mics are being used to capture one stereo image. The small capsule size gives this mic type fast, accurate transient response, which is why it’s the standard choice for acoustic instruments, cymbals and any stereo recording where imaging needs to be precise.
