This works by centre-channel extraction: lead vocals are usually mixed dead-centre, so removing what’s equal in the left and right channels strips most of the vocal (and isolating the centre keeps it). It needs a stereo file, is instant and completely private, and does a great job on many tracks — but because it’s not AI stem separation, it can leave some vocal or thin out centred instruments like bass and snare. How it works (and what to expect)
Lead vocals are almost always mixed dead-centre — equal in the left and right channels. This tool uses centre-channel extraction: to remove vocals it cancels whatever is identical in both channels (taking most of the vocal with it), and to isolate vocals it keeps the centre and drops the sides. It is instant, free and completely private, and does a genuinely good job on many songs.
Because it is not AI stem separation, it isn’t perfect: it can leave a little vocal behind, and it may thin out other centred sounds like bass, kick and snare. It also needs a true stereo file — a mono track has no separate centre to remove. For studio-grade separation, AI stem splitting is on our roadmap. Vocals aren’t only in the exact centre — reverb, doubles and effects spread to the sides — so some can remain. Centre-channel removal gets most of it; AI separation would get the rest.
