Picture gets the credit; sound does the convincing. From film and trailer sound design to brand videos and game audio, we’ll match you with a vetted partner who designs, records and mixes the sounds your project needs — and, where you want it, handles the video side too. Tell us what you’re making below; matching is free.
What our partners cover
- Film & video sound design — effects, ambiences and transitions built to picture (new to the craft? start with what sound design is and what a sound designer does)
- Trailer and promo sound — risers, hits and signature moments (see our guide to sound design for trailers)
- Dialogue and audio post — cleanup, ADR coordination and final mix; for rescue work on rough recordings, see audio cleanup & restoration
- Foley and custom recording — performed and field-recorded effects when library sounds won’t do (what is Foley?)
- Game and app audio — UI sounds, loopable ambiences and event-triggered effects
- Video production & creative — some partners produce the visuals too: social-media video, brand content and campaign creative alongside the audio, one team for both
How it works
- Brief us — what you’re making, its length, where it will play, and what’s already done (locked picture? music chosen? dialogue recorded?).
- Get matched — we pair you with a partner whose reel fits your genre and format.
- Spotting and design — the designer reviews your cut with you, agrees what every key moment should feel like, then builds the soundscape in passes you review against picture.
- Delivery — final mix in the formats you need, from social-ready stereo up to 5.1 and 7.1 surround, plus stems if agreed.
Why hire a sound designer instead of using library packs?
Libraries are a starting point — professionals use them too. The difference is in the fit: a designer layers, edits and processes sounds so each moment matches your picture’s weight and rhythm, records custom material when nothing off-the-shelf works, and mixes it all so dialogue stays clear and the loud moments actually land. It’s the difference between a video that sounds “fine on mute-off” and one that feels expensive. If your project also needs original music rather than effects, that’s film scoring — many projects brief both at once.
Tell us about your project
Pick “Sound design & video production” in the form. Include format and length, deadline, and a link to the cut or a reference project if you have one.
What to expect on price
Sound design is usually quoted per project, driven by the length of the picture, how dense the sound needs to be, and the deliverables. A 30-second social ad with light effects and a stereo mix is quick work; a short film needing full effects, Foley, dialogue cleanup and a surround mix is a different scope entirely. Combined audio + video packages are quoted as one production. As always, the budget brackets in the form are enough for a realistic first match — partners quote properly after seeing the cut.
Sound design FAQs
What’s the difference between sound design and film scoring?
Score is music; sound design is everything else you hear — effects, ambiences, transitions, and the mix that binds it together. They’re separate crafts that have to work as one, which is why briefing them together (or with partners who coordinate) produces a better final mix than bolting one onto the other late.
Can you fix bad location audio?
Often, yes — noise reduction, hum removal and dialogue restoration rescue more footage than people expect, though badly clipped recordings have limits. That work has its own page: audio cleanup & restoration.
Do I need to be in the same city as the sound designer?
No — review cycles work well remotely against timecoded previews. In-person sessions are worth it mainly for final mix reviews on bigger projects, and if that matters to you, mention it in the form so we match you somewhere you can travel to.
Can the same partner shoot the video too?
Some can — several partners run video production and creative services (social content, brand films) alongside audio. If you want one team across picture and sound, say so in your project details and we’ll match you with a partner who does both.
No spam, no obligation — we’ll only use your details to connect you with the right partner, and matching is free.
